1. Introduction

Welcome to PeriodCalc ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website periodcalc.com (the "Site") and use our PeriodCalc mobile applications (the "Apps"). Collectively, the Site and Apps are referred to as the "Service".

Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the Service.

We reserve the right to make changes to this Privacy Policy at any time and for any reason. We will alert you about any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date of this Privacy Policy. You are encouraged to periodically review this Privacy Policy to stay informed of updates.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the Service depends on the content and materials you use, and includes:

A. Personal Data You Provide to Us

  • Cycle Data (Apps & Site): Information you voluntarily enter into the calculator or tracker, such as last period date, cycle length, and related notes. Crucially, on our Service, this sensitive health data is processed locally on your device or browser session. We do *not* store your specific cycle dates, cycle length, or personal notes on our servers.
  • Contact Information (Site): If you contact us via email or our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message to respond to your inquiry.

B. Data Collected Automatically

When you access the Service, we may automatically collect certain information about your device and usage:

  • Log Data: Information your browser or device automatically sends, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and settings, device type and settings, operating system, the date and time of your request, and referring URLs.
  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our Service, such as the pages you visit on the Site, features you use in the Apps, time spent on pages/features, clicks, and crash logs (if applicable in Apps).
  • Device Information: Information about the computer or mobile device you use to access the Service, including the device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers (like Advertising ID (AAID) on Android or Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS, if ads are enabled and consent given where required), and mobile network information.
  • Cookies and Similar Technologies (Site & Apps): We use cookies (small files placed on your device) and similar tracking technologies (like pixels, beacons, and mobile SDKs) to operate and personalize the Service, understand usage, and display advertising. See Section 4 for more details.

3. How We Use Your Information

Having accurate information permits us to provide you with a smooth, efficient, and customized experience. Specifically, we may use information collected about you via the Service to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our Service (e.g., perform calculations locally based on your input).
  • Improve, personalize, and expand our Service.
  • Understand and analyze how you use our Service (using aggregated and anonymized data).
  • Develop new products, services, features, and functionality.
  • Communicate with you, either directly or through one of our partners, including for customer service, to provide you with updates and other information relating to the Service, and for marketing and promotional purposes (e.g., responding to contact requests).
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and fraudulent or illegal activity.
  • Comply with legal obligations.
  • Serve advertisements (See Section 5).

Important Note on Health Data: We reiterate that the specific cycle data you enter is processed locally and is not stored on our servers or used for purposes other than providing the core calculation/tracking functionality directly to you on your device/browser.

4. Cookies, Tracking Technologies, and SDKs

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our Site, and may incorporate third-party Software Development Kits (SDKs) in our Apps, to track activity on our Service and hold certain information.

  • Essential Cookies/Technologies: Necessary for the Service to function properly (e.g., session management).
  • Analytics Cookies/Technologies: Help us understand usage patterns (e.g., Google Analytics). Data collected is typically aggregated and anonymized.
  • Advertising Cookies/Technologies/SDKs: Used by us and our advertising partners (like Google) to display advertisements that may be relevant to your interests. These may collect identifiers like cookies or mobile Advertising IDs (IDFA/AAID).

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Site. For mobile apps, you can typically reset your advertising identifier or opt-out of personalized advertising through your device settings (see Section 5).

5. Advertising (Google AdSense & AdMob)

We use third-party advertising companies, primarily Google (AdSense for Site, AdMob for Apps), to serve ads when you visit or use our Service. These companies may use information about your visits to this and other websites/apps to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you.

  • These companies use cookies (on Site) and/or mobile advertising identifiers (IDFA/AAID on Apps) and other tracking technologies to collect data like your IP address, device ID, usage patterns, and websites/apps visited.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies and identifiers enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our Service and/or other sites/apps on the Internet.
  • Opting Out of Personalized Advertising:
    • You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google Ad Settings.
    • You can also opt out of personalized advertising from many third-party vendors by visiting YourAdChoices (Digital Advertising Alliance) or Network Advertising Initiative Opt Out.
    • For mobile apps:
      • iOS: You can limit ad tracking or reset your Advertising Identifier in your device's Privacy settings (Privacy > Tracking / Advertising). If prompted by our App via the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework, your choice will be respected.
      • Android: You can opt out of interest-based ads or reset your Advertising ID in the Google Settings app on your device (Settings > Google > Ads).
  • EU/UK User Consent: For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK, we comply with Google's EU User Consent Policy and will obtain consent for cookies and personalized advertising where legally required.

6. Third-Party Services

We may employ third-party companies and individuals ("Service Providers") to facilitate our Service, provide the Service on our behalf, perform Service-related services (e.g., analytics, hosting), or assist us in analyzing how our Service is used and serving advertisements.

These third parties have access to your Personal Data (like IP address, usage data, device identifiers) only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose. Key third parties include:

  • Analytics Providers: Google Analytics (helps us understand website/app usage).
  • Advertising Partners: Google AdSense, Google AdMob (display ads).
  • Hosting Providers: (Your hosting company name, if desired - optional)

These providers have their own privacy policies governing their use of data.

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information we have collected about you in certain situations:

  • With Service Providers: As described in Section 6, to perform tasks on our behalf under confidentiality agreements.
  • For Legal Reasons: If required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by another company.
  • Aggregated or Anonymized Data: We may share aggregated or anonymized information (which does not directly identify you) with third parties for analysis, industry reporting, or other legitimate purposes.
  • With Your Consent: We may disclose your personal information for any other purpose with your consent.

We reiterate that your specific, sensitive cycle data entered into the Service is processed locally and is **not** shared with third parties or stored on our servers.

8. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect your personal information. While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the information you provide to us (like processing sensitive data locally), please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse. Any information disclosed online is vulnerable to interception and misuse by unauthorized parties.

9. Data Retention

We will retain your information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

  • Log Data & Usage Data: Generally retained for a limited period for security, analysis, and service improvement purposes. Specific retention periods may depend on the service provider (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Contact Information: Retained as long as necessary to address your inquiry and for record-keeping.
  • User-Entered Cycle Data: As this data is processed locally and not stored on our servers, we do not retain it after your session ends (Site) or unless stored locally within the App by your action (in which case it persists until you delete it or uninstall the App).

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right to Access: You may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: You may have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Erasure (Deletion): You may have the right to request the deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Restrict Processing: You may have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal information.
  • Right to Data Portability: You may have the right to receive your data in a portable format.
  • Right to Object: You may have the right to object to our processing of your personal information, particularly for direct marketing.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on consent (e.g., for certain cookies or personalized ads), you have the right to withdraw it at any time.

To exercise these rights, please contact us using the contact details provided below (Section 14). Since we do not store your core cycle data on our servers, deletion requests primarily apply to automatically collected data logs or contact information, where applicable and feasible.

Residents of certain jurisdictions (like the EEA, UK, California) may have additional specific rights. We will comply with all applicable data protection laws.

11. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or 16 in some jurisdictions in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under this age threshold. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Data without your consent, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our systems.

12. International Data Transfers

Your information, including Personal Data like IP addresses and usage data collected via analytics and advertising partners, may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Our primary service providers (like Google) operate globally. Your use of the Service followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer, where permitted by law.

13. Links to Other Websites and Services

Our Service may contain links to other websites or services that are not operated by us. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party's site or service. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
